How To Keep Your Ego In Check

You don’t owe it all to yourself

In a world where you are constantly encouraged to work on yourself and make your dreams come true, it’s easy to forget this truth:

Absolutely everything you have has been given to you.

Your ideas arguably come to you rather than from you.

The capacity to create anything requires a brain and limbs, none of which you designed yourself.

Your discipline, work ethic and values are either handed down to you by others or were consciously cultivated in response to your life experiences.

Those flaws of yours that you despise? Even they were born of the conditioning and genes and you happened to receive.

You owe everything to the people who raised you, the culture you were born into and the opportunities you were given.

It means that all that you are left with is a choice — how to make use of whatever you have.
